Landlocked Bolivia is mulling a plan that could see it enter the LNG market using river barges.
The country’s Energy and Hydrocarbons Ministry said it is carrying out feasibility studies into the so-called Urupabol plan, which would see Uruguay and Paraguay buy the shipments.
The recently completed first phase of feasibility studies into Urupabol found that state-run Yacimentos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos could ship LNG to the nations using barges on the Hidrovia, a waterway that stretches from Bolivia’s eastern border to the River Plate between Argentina and Uruguay.
