A Manila Electric Corporation offshoot and Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power Company are set to launch a feasibility study into an LNG-fired power plant in the Philippines.
Meralco Powergen and Chubu Electric obtained approval from the Energy Department to carry out the grid impact study for the proposed 1200 megawatt to 1750MW power project.
“In the case of LNG, we are in early stage discussions with select potential partners and are undertaking feasibility study with them involving alternative sites in South Luzon,” Meralco president Oscar Reyes told the Manila Standard newspaper.
