The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has pulled the plug on the Calais LNG terminal proposed for Maine.
However, the developer has promised to fight on to see the project through to completion.
The FERC dismissed Calais LNG’s application for the construction and operation of a 1 billion cubic feet per day terminal on Passamaquoddy Bay.
This was on the grounds that the developer’s inability to secure finance or legal access to a project site “is evidence that (Calais is) not currently in a position to proceed with this project”, according to the regulator.
