The developer of the Tergas LNG import project planned for Brazil is reassessing the proposal as it awaits changes to the fuel reimbursement price.
Proponent Hidrotermica said the national energy regulator is expected to revise the price for gas-fired power plants in the “next few months in order to bring back LNG to be used in energy generation in Brazil”, according to a company source.
The reimbursement price for these plants currently stands at around $7 per million British thermal units, “which is far below the current LNG international price of over $12”.
The Tergas project is planned as a combined import terminal and power plant at the port of Rio Grande in Brazil’s south.
