Spain has slammed on the brakes at LNG terminal projects across the country.
The Council of Ministers has approved a royal decree halting construction of new facilities and delaying commissioning of those being built.
The hardest blows will be felt at Enagas’ El Musel project in Gijon and the Energas terminal proposed by the Grupo Villar Mir conglomerate at Huelva.
Enagas insisted the company will continue building El Musel, which is slated for completion at the end of this year, but the decree delays start-up until further notice.
Last month, the National Energy Commission (CNE) proposed a delay in start-up of the facility because it is no longer needed in Spain’s slumping gas market.
