Shell has signed up to buy volumes from an LNG break bulk terminal being developed next to the existing Gate import facility in Rotterdam.

Gasunie and Vopak have teamed up to build the project, which will serve the Netherlands and Northwest Europe.

“With Shell we have reached a milestone in this new project’s development,” said Gasunie chief executive Paul van Gelder.

The purpose of the terminal is to make LNG available for distribution to marine bunkering and truck fuelling stations.
