Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority has signed a 15-year time-charter agreement with US regas specialist Excelerate for the Caribbean archipelago’s maiden floating import terminal.

The term sheet covers the provision of a floating storage and regasification unit that will act as the Aguirre Offshore GasPort. Send-out is expected to average 250 million cubic feet per day.

PREPA is hoping to secure LNG supply for the terminal by the year-end with a future US deal in the frame to provide long-term volumes.

“We are having very healthy discussions with one of the (US) companies for long-term supply,” said Juan Roman Rivera, executive vice president and fiscal agent for the Government Development Bank.
