The Canary Islands’ long march to start building its first LNG terminal may continue at least until next year despite recent permitting successes.

Construction on the proposed Tenerife island import facility is “most likely” to start at the beginning of 2013, a source with knowledge of the project said.

Antonio Llarden, chief executive of shareholder Enagas, had previously said construction would begin this year, and the project source said this remains a possibility.
