Pakistan is considering establishing an LNG import facility through a joint venture between state-owned players Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and Sui Southern Gas Company.
A committee on LNG infrastructure projects constituted by the prime minister met for the first time on 17 August to take a view on the venture. The federal government will have a major shareholding in the proposed JV, said the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.
Earlier attempts to develop import terminals have not paid off and domestic resistance to costlier imported LNG has restricted plans.
