Anadarko has notched up another drilling success in its appraisal well campaign on Mozambique’s giant offshore Area 1 gas complex.

The US explorer, looking to firm up reserves estimates ranging from 17 trillion to more than 30 trillion cubic feet to feed a large liquefaction project, said the Barquentine-4 well hit about 160 metres of net pay.

The probe, in about 1650 metres of water, was the ninth successful well to be drilled in Area 1 on the Windjammer, Barquentine, Lagosta and Camarao prospects.

The complex will now be renamed Prosperidade (Prosperity), a name chosen by childen from schools in Palma Village.

Anadarko will next drill in the northern part of Area 1 where it will target additional prospects including Atum and Golfinho.
