Beleaguered Japanese utility Tokyo Electric Power Company has secured LNG cargoes to give it short-term cover for the next one to two months. The shipments will replace nuclear power generating capacity damaged in last week’s massive earthquake and tsunami.
Tepco, which this week was battling the meltdown of fuel rods at its quake-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant 240 kilometres from Tokyo, is understood to have moved quickly last weekend.
