Wannabe Canary Islands LNG importer GasCan has finally received the official green light from Madrid to begin building its first terminal.
Executives recently informed regional government officials that Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria has issued construction permits for the regasification project at Granadilla on Tenerife.
“This decision will have positive repercussions for the development of industry on the islands but most of all for carrying out the objective in the Canary Islands Energy Plan of diversifying energy on the archipelago,” said Margarita Ramos, the islands’ employment, industry and commerce councillor.
Soria, himself a Canary Islander, had signalled in January that he would give the terminal the go-ahead but GasCan officials were left waiting for the official paperwork.
