Petronas Gas is continuing to battle construction headaches to complete and commission its new Lekas LNG import terminal.

The operator has been dealing with “site specific problems”, sources said, as it strives to get the one kilometre-long jetty that supports the project’s regasification equipment ready for operations by the end of this month.

Key among the issues faced by the Malaysian state energy company offshoot and its contractor WorleyParsons is piling under the jetty due to the uneven nature of the rock bed beneath the seafloor.

This has necessitated dredging in places while at others water depths are very deep.
