The US LNG import market is looking about as dismal as it can get.



Data from the Department of Energy show that the country once expected to be an LNG buying titan has seen its lowest imports in more than eight years.



Just 20.2 billion cubic feet of LNG reached US shores in July, the latest month available from US officials.



The figure represents a 44% drop on July 2010 and is the third straight month of year-on-year declines despite two new terminals coming online this year.
