The global tally of LNG import terminals is set to sail beyond the 100 mark as the 19 facilities now under construction come on-stream, recent figures show. A further 60-plus facilities are in the works, some more concrete than others.
Many of those under development are floating regasification units with developers attracted by the quick start-up potential and lower costs over land-based terminals.
But as unit providers drown in a sea of invitations to pre-qualify, bid deadlines and technical specifications, a new maturity appears to be creeping into the process.
Interested parties are being forced to make a choice about their targets.
