Cheniere Energy has left competitors in the dust in the race for US LNG exports. Its proposal to turn Sabine Pass LNG into a liquefaction facility is to date the only fully permitted export project in the Lower 48 states.
While Freeport LNG’s application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is advancing, everyone except Cheniere is waiting for Department of Energy approval for sales to countries without a US free trade agreement.
