Hess LNG has appealed to Brussels in its quest to reach a solution on Irish gas interconnector tariffs that have long plagued its planned Shannon LNG terminal.

The developer has taken the issue to the European energy and competition authorities but said it will “take some time for any resolution (if any) to emerge from that avenue”.

Hess is contesting plans to charge all gas providers in Ireland for use of the interconnectors, which transport gas from the UK, whether or not they use the infrastructure.

The company is hoping to build an LNG import terminal in Ireland and so would not be using the pipeline.
