Golden Pass Products, the Qatar Petroleum-led joint venture with ExxonMobil, plans to add liquefaction facilities to its under-utilised US import terminal.

The operator this week applied to the Department of Energy to export up to 15.6 million tonnes of LNG per annum for 25 years to countries holding free trade agreements. The company plans to invest $10 billion in a new liquefaction facility adjacent to its existing import terminal at Sabine Pass, Texas.

It will apply later to ship out volumes to non-FTA nations, according to its application.

The operator is seeking permission to run the export project on a tolling basis, to engage in natural gas purchases and LNG sales for export, and to act as an agent for third parties.
