Spain’s Industry Ministry has published its approval of the Canary Islands’ first LNG import terminal, concluding a 12-year permitting process.
GasCan, the utility set up to develop two regasification facilities on the Atlantic archipelago, is hoping to begin construction later this year on a 1.31 billion cubic metres per annum terminal at the Tenerife island port of Granadilla.
Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria, a Canary Islander, first signalled in January that he would approve the project but GasCan sources had been hesitant to declare permits a done deal until official publication.
