Spain’s Endesa is looking beyond BG Group for supplies at the GNL Quintero import terminal in central Chile.

UK-headquartered BG is the facility’s principal supplier under a long-term contract. However, Endesa Chile brought in its first cargo late last year from BP, vessel tracking data show.

The deal opened the possibility of “continuing to make further new purchases of shipments from different suppliers to guarantee access to additional LNG on competitive market conditions, as well as contributing to diversify supply sources”, Endesa subsidiary Enersis told securities regulators.

Endesa controls 20% of GNL Quintero, as do local outfits Metrogas and Enap.
