The US Energy Information Administration expects LNG imports into the United States to remain at the gas equivalent of a dismal 690 million cubic feet per day.

The government agency’s latest Short Term Energy Outlook forecasts the same imports for this year, unchanged from the prior monthly update.

The 2012 figure marks a 26% decline on last year’s throughput.

“A small amount of LNG will continue to arrive at US terminals in 2012 and 2013 either to take advantage of temporarily high local prices due to cold snaps and disruptions or to fulfill long-term contract obligations,” the report said.
