Chilean miner and steelmaker Compania Acerero del Pacifico is running its slide rule over a potential LNG import terminal project.
The company is mulling floating or land-based options at locations both in the north and south of the country, CAP chief executive Jaime Charles told a recent investors conference in Santiago.
The project, which would also involve a gas-fired power plant, is aimed at reducing electricity costs across its iron ore mining operations.
CAP aims to take a decision on whether to move forward within the next 12 months, allowing the facility to begin taking cargoes and producing electricity in 2018, according to its website.
