Japanese shipbuilder IHI Marine United has developed a design for a 10,000-twenty foot equivalent units (teu) containership fuelled by LNG.
The design incorporates IHI’s unique self-supporting prismatic shape IMO type-B (SPB) LNG containment system for the ship’s fuel tanks.
IHI claims the SPB system will reduce the problem of sloshing, requires less space and weighs less than alternative LNG fuel containment systems.
