Aruba is chasing down a new LNG import project with the help of two Dutch companies.
Government-controlled power provider Utilities Aruba has engaged Gasunie and Anthony Veder to develop a business case for a small-scale floating storage and regasification unit.
US refiner Valero had made significant progress on a floating import project that was set to feed both its own refinery and a power plant on the southern Caribbean island.
However, it recently decided to close the refinery, slamming the door on its LNG plans.
Aruba still “needs LNG yesterday, not tomorrow”, a Utilities Aruba source pointed out.
