Beijing has endorsed a proposal by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) to build a new import terminal at Shenzhen city in Guangdong province, writes Xu Yihe.
The National Energy Administration (NEA) has approved the company’s feasibility study for a 4 million tonnes per annum facility at Diefu on Dapeng Peninsula.
“This means that construction can start,” a well-placed government source said.
CNOOC will start the bidding process for an engineering, procurement and construction contract in the second half of this year with commissioning slated for 2015.
The company has yet to secure all the required LNG supplies for the new terminal, which will be linked to gas-fired power plants in Dongbu by a three-kilometre send-out pipeline
