AES Dominicana is looking to procure up to five LNG cargoes to satisfy additional gas demand in the Dominican Republic in 2013.

The operator of the AES Andres import terminal (pictured), the Caribbean island nation’s lone regas project, said it is “actively looking at buying three to five cargoes”.

“The cargoes will be destined to supply growing domestic demand as the industrial and transportation segments are increasing rapidly,” said an AES executive.

He added that off-takers have already signed contracts for the additional LNG.

In terms of sourcing the volumes, he said: “It will be a matter of finding competitive pricing for LNG since the alternative fuel price is declining fast.”
