Shipyards have finally received tender documents from Nigeria LNG detailing the producer’s fleet renewal requirements.
Yards have until 18 May to submit technical offers for six 170,000-cbm LNG carrier newbuildings which are being ordered as replacement tonnage for existing 1970s and early 1980s-built vessels, industry sources said.
Commercial bids are likely to be requested for around the middle of this year.
NLNG is understood to be seeking handover dates on the ships in late 2015 to early 2016.
The size and delivery targets effectively rule out any of the current crop of LNG newbuildings.
The Nigerian project is believed to be keen to contract, own and operate the new vessels through its Bonny Gas Transport shipping arm.
