Woodside is preparing an eight-well exploration programme in a frontier area off Western Australia that, if successful, could provide feedstock gas for the Browse LNG project.

The company was awarded three large blocks in the Outer Canning basin in 2008.

The acreage, held in a joint venture with Shell, contains prospects with resources projected to range from 200 billion cubic feet to 12 trillion cubic feet of gas.

The partners will first shoot more than 11,000 square kilometres of 3D seismic data.
