Shipyards expect to receive a tender this month for a tranche of LNG newbuildings that will be used to upgrade Nigeria LNG’s dedicated fleet.
The precise timing of the invitation to bid remains somewhat unclear.
Documents were originally due to be issued in March but the process has been delayed while talks continue about the volume of local content, industry sources said.
Under legislation passed in 2010, all oil and gas projects are required to have an approved ‘Nigerian content plan’ as a condition for taking a final investment decision.
NLNG is likely to deal directly with the shipyards, sources said.
