Companies are being invited to bid for a study that could help develop Europe-wide guidelines for the bunkering of LNG-fuelled ships.

 

The European Maritime Safety Agency tendered this week for a study into existing standards for LNG bunkering and rules that are under development, and to make recommendations on how these could be developed going forward.

 

EMSA said in tender documents that the use of LNG as a marine fuel has been driven by the introduction of the Sulphur Emission Control Areas by 1 January 2015, coupled with the International Maritime Organisation’s requirement for a maximum 0.1%
