Stena Bulk has signed up to two LNG carrier newbuildings at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company in South Korea.

The company has also spun off its LNG activities into a separate business unit.

Stena has until mid-June to lift subjects on the 174,000-cbm newbuildings at DSME and is understood to be working to finalise long-term employment for the vessels.

Management has said LNG carriers will not be ordered on speculation.

The company has previously been linked to Macquarie and Chevron on charter deals.

Stena is believed to have a little longer to decide on two 160,000-cbm LNG carrier newbuildings it has pencilled in at South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.
