Russia’s Sovcomflot (SCF) confirmed that Shell has taken two newbuildings ordered at South Korean yard STX Offshore & Shipbuilding on long-term charter

The 140,000-cbm ships, which were ordered in February, are due for delivery in 2014 and 2015.

They are being built with the participation of Russia’s JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation as a way to boost the nation’s ability to tackle sophisticated LNG carrier jobs, SCF said.

“The agreement provides the possibility for gas carriers of a unique and technically advanced design to be built in Russia,” said SCF boss Sergey Frank.
