Marine support specialist Smit Lamnalco is working to develop a vessel capable of serving floating LNG export projects.
The company is already talking to Shell over the supermajor’s potential service vessel needs at the Prelude LNG project off Australia.
Smit Lamnalco executives believe the operator will need to identify its requirements over the coming months to line up orders for new offshore support vessels.
The company, a major provider of tug services to LNG export facilities, declined to provide details of its proposed design, which is in early stages of development.
Offshore support players are licking their lips at the potential business offered by the FLNG market.
