Russia’s Gazprom and Sovcomflot are hoping to send test LNG shipments through the Northern Sea Route “in the nearest future”.
Gazprom said its chief executive, Alexey Miller, met with Sovcomflot boss Sergey Frank to discuss details of the plan.
“LNG production development is an absolute priority as compared to pipeline gas export to Asia-Pacific markets,” Miller said.
He continued: “For instance, by supplying Russian LNG via the Northern Sea Route we will significantly reduce transportation costs and make this product highly competitive in these target Asian markets.”
