Korea Gas will require 11 LNG carriers to lift the 7.7 million tonnes per annum of new long-term volumes it plans to ship from upcoming liquefaction projects in Australia, Indonesia and the US.
Under current plans, Kogas aims to go out to the market for seven LNG newbuildings, probably of around 160,000-cbm capacity, an official said.
Four time-chartered ships, which are due to become free after long-term tie-ups with producers in Malaysia and Indonesia expire in 2014 and 2015, will pick up the slack.
Shipbuilding orders would not need to be placed until 2015, the Kogas official added.
