Today Makes Tomorrow and Japanese shipbuilder IHI Corporation are in talks about using the Nobu Su-controlled shipowner’s vessels as conversion candidates for floating LNG production units.

IHI officials confirmed discussions have taken place on the use of either of two very large ore carrier units contracted by TMT and completed by Hyundai Heavy Industries, which are currently understood to be languishing undelivered at the yard, or the company’s fleet of eight very large ore oilers.

The aim is to install IHI’s SPB-type tanks on the FLNG units in a bid to showcase the yard’s specialist, sloshing proof containment system.
