Golar LNG has thrown down $400 million for two LNG carrier newbuildings at Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The John Fredriksen-controlled shipowner’s latest order also includes options for two more LNG carriers.

The South Korean shipbuilder’s Hyundai Samho yard will construct the 162,000-cbm units.

Golar said the company’s board has spent months considering its options for fleet expansion.

The outfit said the current climate is attractive because newbuilding prices are under some pressure and tri-fuel vessels provide significantly lower operating costs.
