Gail (India) is preparing to tap the LNG shipping market for vessels to transport its newly booked US volumes to domestic import terminals on the west coast.

The government-run gas company is searching for a consultant to carry out a study to establish how best to build up a fleet.

Gail has an off-take deal for 3.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG from Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass liquefaction project on the US Gulf Coast.

Under free-on-board terms the buyer is responsible for transportation of the volumes, which are scheduled to start to flowing in 2017.
