Dalian Shipbuilding is being tipped as the most likely Chinese yard to make the next break into LNG carrier construction.

If the country’s only existing LNG builder, Hudong-Zhonghua, wins the six-ship deal for Sinopec-CSDC then Dalian will be best placed to snatch an upcoming order from BG Group to build two LNG carriers, sources speculated.

BG is said to prefer to follow Mitsui OSK Lines at Hudong-Zhonghua, where a large ExxonMobil-backed team has been assembled to oversee construction of four LNG carriers that will serve the PNG LNG project.
