Gasnor and Brunsbuttel Port are planning to build an LNG bunkers station in the northern German town.

Classification society DNV has been tasked with carrying out risk studies for the project, which is set to fuel oceangoing vessels and barges.

The station will be constructed at the crossing of the river Elbe and the Kiel-Canal.

The port authority, which owns and operates three ports in the town of Brunsbuttel, said its Elbehafen port “provides ideal conditions for an LNG bunker station for shipping from and to Hamburg as well as for all traffic on the Kiel-Canal”.
