A mixed group of 44 US politicians has come together to press for a quicker approvals process for LNG export projects.

The group, comprising 34 Republicans and 10 Democrats in the House of Representatives, wrote to Energy Secretary Steven Chu calling for “a renewed sense of urgency” in the permitting process.

Their argument is that gas production could fall if companies do not have the option to market their gas to international customers, which could in turn have a detrimental impact on domestic prices.
