Total has taken an equity stake off the table in negotiations over proposed exports from Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG import terminal on the US Gulf Coast.

Talks are now centring around an LNG supply deal similar to an agreement Cheniere recently finalised with UK gas giant BG Group, said a source at the French supermajor.

However, Total may one day buy a stake in the project, where it is already an import capacity holder, the source said on the sidelines of the European Autumn Gas Conference in Paris this week.
