Tanzania’s energy ministry has called on Statoil of Norway to work with fellow gas driller BG Group of the UK on a single liquefaction project in the East African country.

The Europeans have to date been considering separate export plants.

Statoil vice president Tim Dodson noted that allying with BG Group would save costs and said that talking is an option, according to Tanzania Daily News.

BG would not comment on the speculation but said: “We have made an encouraging start but there is still much work to do before we can commit to an LNG project in Tanzania.

“It is equally premature to speculate about what structure or form a project would take.”
