Norwegian operator Statoil is to delay taking a decision on development of a second liquefaction train at its Snohvit LNG site.

The call was due to be made by this summer but there are apparent differences between partners on the way ahead.

The choice is between boosting capacity at the LNG plant on Melkoya island off Hammerfest to monetise increased reserves at the Barents Sea field of the same name or developing a more costly gas pipeline from the Arctic frontier region.
