Statoil and partner ExxonMobil have hit an estimated 3 trillion cubic feet of gas in their second Tanzania exploration well, adding to reserves set to feed an onshore LNG plant.
The Norwegian outfit said it made a “large gas discovery” in its block 2 licence, where is has been drilling on an independent structure called Lavani.
Statoil is working to prove up between 8 and 10 tcf of gas to support a liquefaction facility in the country.
