Shell chief executive Peter Voser gave the strongest indication yet this week that the company’s Prelude floating LNG production project off Western Australia is likely to be in operation in 2017.

“We have never said exactly the year but it comes on-stream in the second half of the decade, around most probably 2017, and we are working towards that and it is going well,” he said.

Voser, speaking about the company’s second-quarter results, said Shell is mulling FLNG technology for “two or three” other projects but did not reveal details.

The Anglo-Dutch supermajor also confirmed it is considering buying into the Papua New Guinea LNG export development.Chief
