Russia’s Gazprom is reportedly in talks with Shell thatcould see the supermajor take a role in the Shtokman export project.

The negotiations come as Statoil is seen as potentiallyexiting the project.

“Talks regarding Shell's participation in Shtokman are underway,” a source close to the Shtokman consortium told Reuters. “There aredifferent project configurations under discussion now but Gazprom will keep a51% stake."

Statoil of Norway controls 24% of the Arctic project, whileFrance’s Total owns 25%.
