Shell has secured 50% stakes in Petrobras-operated blocks 5 and 6 off Tanzania where an exploration well is currently being drilled.
Ocean Rig’s Poseidon drillship, which is working on the Zeta-1 probe in water depths of 1450 metres, was subject to an attempted pirate attack this week.
The rig owner denied shots were fired from Poseidon but drilling was halted as the crew of about 170 retreated to the safety of an onboard secure room during the 3 October assault.
