Japanese operator Inpex has awarded four out of the five main offshore construction packages for its US$34 billion Ichthys LNG project in north-west Australia.
Samsung Heavy Industries and partner Mustang Engineering won the race for a $3 billion-plus contract to build the giant semisub production platform.
The South Korean giant had a negotiating team in Paris this week for final talks with Ichthys owners Inpex and Total of France, sources said.
