Leading exporter Qatargas is boosting short-term LNG supplies to Japan to over 20 million tonnes.
The company said the move to bolster supply shows increased support for Japan in the aftermath of last year’s earthquake and tsunami, which resulted in a nuclear meltdown.
The LNG volumes improve upon the 9 million tonnes of short-term supplies originally announced last autumn.
“These volumes are in addition to the several new long-term LNG supply agreements reached between Qatargas and its Japanese customers over the last 12 months,” said Qatargas.
